Hi,

I am using Avra Phonetic with font Arial Unicode MS. The problem appears when I want to type juktakshar. Juktakshar is not coming in Avra Phonetic. When I want to write November in Bengali, its coming like this নভেম্বর and not নভেম্বর (the correct spelling with juktakshar). Please help me out with this and suggest a method.

Note: Plz suggest a method with Arial Unicode MS font only, as I am unable to use any other font.

Thank You.

Nipon
Both the words you typed look same to me! Both are correct too!

Yes I guess here avra phonetic did the spelling auto correct. I am trying to write again what it comes when I write in Word 2003 using Arial Unicode MS. It is like this -- নভমেবর।

The trouble persists with all yuktakshars.

Please help me Nipon Bhai.

Well it is not a question of autocorrect. Anyways, coming to the point. Since এ-কার is coming after ভ in your display, it is clear you haven't installed support for complex script in your Windows XP (or 2000). I saw correctly because I have this 'support for complex script and right-to-left characters' installed on my computer.

If you need pointers on how to do that, please take a look at this guide - Configuring your Windows on http://www.omicronlab.com/docs.html

Dear monermanush,

The problem of Juktakkhor/Yuktakkhara is not a problem of Avro or Unicode. This problem regardsto the font "Arial Unicode MS". This is a faulty font for Bangla. It cannot show Bangla properly, not only the Juktakkhor/Yuktakkhara but also the '-kar' as well. And unfortunately the different fonts of M$ Wind0w$ and M$ Office (which they claim as Unicode compatible fonts) shows different results. Only Vrinda, a unicode font from M$ family, can show Bangla 'almost' appropriately. If you ask for a suggestion the only option that we can recommend is use the free OpenSource fonts.

Lets see some results:

Test:1
Test Word: হিতৈষী

M$ fonts:

1. Vrinda: IPB Image
2. Arial Unicode MS: IPB Image
3. Lucida Unicode Sans: IPB Image

Free Fonts:

4. Siyum Rupali: IPB Image
5. Solaimanlipi: IPB Image

Test:2
Test Word: নভেম্বর

M$ fonts:

1. Vrinda: IPB Image
2. Arial Unicode MS: IPB Image
3. Lucida Unicode Sans: IPB Image

Free Fonts:

4. Siyum Rupali: IPB Image
5. Solaimanlipi: IPB Image
