Is it a standard character? I can't think of a word with this character, correct me if I am wrong.
soumenmandal
well first of all let me apologize for the wrong heading it should be taye taye rafala... secondly yes its standard symbol but mostly used in writing sanskrit shlokas..... words like পুত্ত্রৈঃ পৌত্ত্রৌঃ are used in sanskrit....

Aha! That's why its not assigned in Unicode at Bengali Language. Sorry, I guess this character does not exit in Bengali Unicode.

Yes now I remember. I have seen this in Sanskrit slokas. Ya, it is a Bengali character and I guess it should have its place in Unicode.

Should we include this character in font?

ইউনিকোডে স্থান পাবার আগেই এটাকে সংযুক্ত করা বোধহয় ঠিক হবেনা।

Agreed.

পৌত্রঃ is fine with us. Btw unicode has Shanskrit scripts. It should not be included to Bangla. Even it is argued that Lee, and the two ব's should be truncated from Bangla as they are redundant.

I think it is just a matter of convincing the font designers (who presumably don't need to type sanskrit) to include an extra glyph for the "ta er ta er ra" combination.

by the way, the only bangla fonts that I found that have both khondoto (a surprising number of fonts that didn't include a separate khondo to) and avagraha (necessary for sanskrit) AND render properly are.

Siyam Rupali
Ekushey Azad
Ekushey Godhuli
Ekushey Mohua
Ekushey Puja
Ekushey Saraswatii
Ekushey Sharifa Ekushey
Sumit
Rupali
Mukti
Likhan (Deepayan Sarkar kindly sent me an updated font which has both khondo to and avagraha)

They deal with the combination "ta hasanta ta hasanta ra" in three ways.

Mukti and only Mukti rendered it as a ত্ত with a র-ফলা
Siyam Rupali, Ekushey Azad, Likhan treat it asfollowed by ত্র
The remaining fonts
Ekushey Godhuli
Ekushey Mohua
Ekushey Puja
Ekushey Saraswatii
Ekushey Sharifa
Ekushey Sumit and
Rupali treat it as with a underneath followed by a র-ফলা.
Interestingly all the fonts render the unicode sequence followed by as
a with a underneath except Ekushey Azad which renders it as Khondo to
