Full Version: Firefox plugin and editor
OmicronLab Community > Avro Keyboard - Unicode Compliant Free Bangla Typing Software > Wish a feature for Avro Keyboard
Md Ariful Islam Siddiquee
First of all, my apologies if this feature is already requested/discussed.

1. Past few days i was using a firefox plugin 'Its all text!' [ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4125 ]. Whenever i am to type something in any textbox in any webpage, its gives me a option to do the typing in my favorite editor.
Can we have something similar to that? Say i will have some small icon at the end of the textbox if i want to type in bangla there. And of course with all suport that avro already provides.

2. As avro is already fat (10.7 MB), can we have an editor optimized for avro which will boost the typing experience using avro.

Thanks
Arif

Wonderful thoughts! smile.gif

We are thinking about developing a Firefox plug-in. Your ideas are great, but it will work only in Windows if we provide an "AvroPad" (like notepad). I think developing a full independent plug-in will be better, as it will be platform independent, too.

Anyway, it may take some time. Currently we are too busy developing Avro Keyboard 5. (The spell checker dictionary is killing me sad01_anim.gif )

About Avro Size:
It is also frustrating to me. Originally Avro Keyboard is almost 4 MB. Its help files make it 7 MB as a whole.
But additional system files for installing complex language (iComplex) made it total 10 MB (almost). We can leave this part, but I think inserting Windows CD for installing a Bangla typing software is more harassing than downloading additional 3.5 MB

What do you think?

Thanks Mehedi for the updates.

On another note.. when the toolbar is on it uses around 450+ gdi objects
and when typing in MS word using photetich support this goes upto 600+
I think it u can reduce this that would be very cool

about avropad
I like the name smile.gif . first time u can target only win users and then look at the linux usercase. In first release or beta release u dont have to support all os. later u can make it cross-platform.

I donno the whole scenario behind the fat case. Do we always need iComplex support? If not then can you make different bundles so that users can choose from the bundles. but still marketing policy comes in front here. But think about the bandwidth in BD. it would take around 10 x 1024 KB / 6 KBs = 1706s = 29 mins.. which realy annoying. i just want to type something and i have to wait so much time just for it to be downloaded. Here if we have some really slim say ~2MB (although i think its a bit hilarious biggrin.gif ) build which provide all the very basic functionality.. i will never hesitate to download that and start working.

Another thing: when i use photeic support, can we use the tool tip window a bit transparent. right now it hides the text behind it. nothing that important. just a thought.

And i donno how many people will agree with me, but help file in pdf format is realy a pain. I donno whether its for bangla support. can we have a searchable chm help file?

Thanks a lot for making such a wonderful soft. keep it up. bye1.gif

VB6 manages these GDI objects internally. Even, you may find that Avro Keyboard often runs in 2 or more thread, which is also automatic. We have optimized the CODE as much as possible, there is nothing more we can do.

iComplex/complex script support will be needed only once in a fresh installed WinXp/Win2000/Win2003 machine. It is not needed in Vista. Even, if you install it once, then uninstall Avro Keyboard, it will not required again until you remove it.

We wanted to make the deployment/installation easier. Suppose you have 20 computers in a Cyber Cafe/in your office where you want to install Avro Keyboard. If we split the installer based on some conditions (whether it is installed, install this piece blah blah blah), thinks will be more complicated. Packaging iComplex with Avro Keyboard also let you to start your work even if your Windows CD is not near at hand.

I know the condition in BD. If we like a song, we can download a 5 MB mp3 file. If we need a software, why can't we download it, specially where we have not placed any restriction, nothing to buy, nowhere to register, no nagging dialog, no donation request etc.? smile.gif

Well, let us see how much we can reduce the size...

Once again a mind blowing idea! Configurable transparency in Preview window will be implemented in the next release. Thanks once again.

Help files are required when you are in trouble. The PDF formate ensures that you can read it simply if you have a PDF reader, not necessarily that must be Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can also use the lightweight Foxit Reader.

If we pack the help files as chm, users must need one Bangla font to read it. At least reading a help file should be hassle free. That's why they are in PDF. Moreover, Windows Vista discontinues supporting some formats of help files.

Well, as you mentioned, I'll dig this issue even more when I can manage some free time.
