HOW TO: Display Bengali Text In Opera Mini

Many users complain that they can’t see the text on Bengali web pages on their mobile phones and get boxes instead. Popular java-based mobile browser Opera Mini lets you see Bengali characters on your handset by using bitmap fonts which are rendered on the Opera Mini server itself.
- Type ‘opera:config’ in the Opera Mini address bar to load the power-user settings of Opera Mini.
- Scroll down and enable the option ‘Use bitmap fonts for complex scripts’
With that, you are all set to surf Bengali websites on Opera Mini. No more boxes!

You can’t view these Bengali news sites because they are not written in Unicode. Read this link to learn more – http://omicronlab.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1360
You can still read Anandabazar in Unicode on a 3rd party website – http://anandabazar-unicode.appspot.com/proxy Bookmark it in your Opera Mini.
This works fine for high end sets.
For low brand sets, the browser will crash after few page loads with “out of memory exception”.
It requires a lot of memory for managing bitmap fonts. The situation gets worse when a page with lots of Bangla text is loaded (i.e. A blog entry).
if opera:config does not works on your mobile device, you have to write there about:config

এভাবে মোবাইলে বাংলা দেখা যায় তা ঠিক আছে কিন্তু এভাবে মোবাইলে বাংলা দেখতে হলে প্রচুর ডাটা ইউজ হয়। যেমন মোবাইলে বাংলা ফন্ট ইনস্টল করা থাকলে যে সাইট দেখতে ৫০ কি.বা. লাগে আর এভাবে দেখলে ৫০০ কি.বা. এর বেশী লাগে। আর এতে বাংলা একটা লাইনের উপর আরেকটা আসে ফলে দেখতে অসুবিধা হয়। এই ব্যবস্থায় নোকিয়া সিম্বিয়ান ফোনের উপর করা যেতে পারে কেননা এতে বাংলা ফন্টের সুবিধা নেই।আর নোকিয়ার সিরিজ ৪০ সেটে যেমন বর্তমানে 3110, 2700, 2700 classic, 6303 বংলা সাপোর্ট এমনিতেই আছে। ফলে এসবে আপনার পদ্ধতি ব্যবহার যুক্তিযুক্ত হবে না। এখন সমস্যা হল কীভাবে নোকিয়ার সিম্বিয়ান সেটে বাংলা ttf font ইনস্টল করা যায়। এ বিষয়ে যদি কেউ লিখতেন তবে ভাল হত। আমি Nokia 5233 সেটে বাংলা ফন্ট ইনস্টল করতে পারিনি।
আমার জানামতে সিম্বিয়ান ফার্স্ট এবং সেকেন্ড এডিশনে ট্রু টাইপ ফন্ট সাপোর্ট করে না। সিম্বিয়ান ফোনে ফন্টগুলো .gdr এ কনভার্ট করে দিলে তা ওই ফোনে সাপোর্ট করবে। তবে ইউনিকোড কাজ করবে কিনা তাতে আমার সন্দেহ আছে।
সিম্বিয়ান থার্ড এডিশনে সম্ভবত ট্রু টাইপ ফন্ট সাপোর্ট করে কিন্তু তার ক্ষেত্রেও একই কথা প্রযোজ্য। আমার থার্ড এডিশনের ফোন নেই তাই পরীক্ষা করে দেখা হয়নি। কেউ করে থাকলে জানাবেন।
যাদের ফোনে আগে থেকেই বাংলা সাপোর্ট আছে তারা ucWeb ব্রাউজার ব্যবহার করতে পারেন। এতে বাংলা লেখাগুলো সুন্দর দেখায় এবং একটার উপরে আরেকটা উঠে যায় না।

Opera mobile should have this feature…is there any other way to enable it caz mobile view is better than mini. Does ucbrowser shows bangla in nokia on fb page?
